Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

Pop-up shops such as the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs-sponsored YesPleaseMore are the wave of the future, riding high on the popularity of the currently prevalent “buy local” and DIY mentalities and a modern re-allegiance to the power of community. And that’s not a bad thing: The alternative retail store — the brainchild of entrepreneur/artist/activists Samuel Schimek and Brian Corrigan and currently open near the Barnes & Noble on the second level of the Denver Pavilions, 500 16th Street through September 15 — not only exclusively sells goods designed in Colorado, but also provides work space and even micro-grants for struggling artists.

Drop by from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday or noon to 6 p.m. Sunday and be pleasantly surprised by the funky wares: Hand-pulled T-shirts, limited-edition screen prints, unique furniture, comics, baskets made from coiled garden hoses, stationery by Matter Studio and more (the merchandise is constantly changing). And not to worry when it’s all over: It’s only a matter of time before the store re-emerges somewhere else.

For information, go to http://yespleasemore.com or visit the store’s Facebook page.
