Finding the Heart of Art

In addition to the official events associated with the Biennial of the Americas, there are a number of unofficial ones, especially in the city’s many art galleries. Among the most promising is the installation show Perceptions at Walker Fine Arts, which was put together by gallery director Bobbi Walker. “I began attending meetings for the Biennial two years ago, and I knew immediately that I wanted to create a forum for local artists to participate,” Walker says. At the time, the Biennial was being organized by big-name designer Bruce Mau, who has since departed, and its motto was “In Good We Trust.”

The ideas behind the Biennial have morphed since then, but Mau’s original themes were innovation, sustainability, community and art. Walker adopted those as the themes for her own show. The four artists selected for Perceptions are Sabin Aell, Kim Ferrer, Emma Hardy and Lauri Lynnxe Murphy, each of whom has created an ambitious installation representing those themes.

The show continues through August 28 at Walker Fine Art, 300 West 11th Avenue. For additional details, call 303-355-8955 or go to www.walkerfineart.com.
