Obscure Objects of Desire

If you’ve already been to the Biennial’s fantastic Objectophilia group show, you know that the all-local YesPleaseMore pop-up shop has an annex there, where you can buy goods made from repurposed items, including paper collages by Objectophilia artist Phil Bender, Horndribble wall lamps, Mukee Design’s jewelry fashioned from recycled skateboards and more, after enjoying the art and installations.

But tonight is YesPleaseMore’s turn to really shine. The store will host a YesPleaseMore Swap-n-Shop event from 7 to 9 p.m., with crafting demos by members of the Denver Handmade Alliance, an Artist Trading Card workshop with Denver found-object artist/collector Jerry Simpson and, of course, the main feature: a white elephant swap, featuring tables of objects, art materials and art elements for trading.

“Since the show is about object love, and walking around and seeing all of its found-object installations can be inspiring to artists, I thought it would be great for them to be able to collect materials and trade out the ones they’re not using while they’re here,” says pop-up store maven Samuel Schimek. “And because of how heavy and fun the DIY culture is here in Denver, it’s nice to be able to showcase it during the Biennial.”

Objectophilia and Swap-n-Shop are at 1490 Delgany Street; get details at www.biennialoftheamericas.org/events/month/7/day/21.
