FUNNY BUSINESS

The Festivus Film Festival has been bringing serious independent cinema to Denver for the past three winters. But Festivus has a silly side, too, one that’s being expanded into a film-plus-standup-comedy showcase called the Laugh Track Comedy Festival.

“One of the most popular blocks every year at Festivus is the Laugh Track, which features comedic short films,” says fest organizer Tim DeMasters. “Due to sold-out attendance at this block, we’ve decided to expand our comedy selections into their own festival. The inclusion of live comedy mixed with films is new to Denver, and it will give people even more of a reason to come out.”

A wide range of comedic films and standup performers, including the Nix Brothers and Adam Cayton-Holland, are slated to jack up the laugh quotient. Adds DeMasters, “Programming Laugh Track in the summer enables us to stay active during a different part of the year and gives the films and comedians that we love a chance to reach an expanding audience. And it remains true to our independent mantra.”

The Laugh Track Comedy Festival starts tonight at 7 p.m. at the Bug Theatre, 3654 Navajo Street, and continues tomorrow at 4 p.m. Pre-sale tickets to the all-ages event are $8 per block or $25 for a weekend pass ($10 and $30 at the door).
