KID TALK

To supplement this diet, KGNU offers a three-day Youth Radio Workshop each summer. Now in its tenth year, the workshop — open to youth ages twelve to nineteen — offers classes in broadcast skills, field-recording basics, sound-editing software, disc jockeying, creating news features/dramas and more.

“We want youth voices on the airways,” adds Fuqua. “That’s a group that is not heard from and is often not taken seriously by adults. When you give a kid a microphone, they can say some amazing and important things.”

The workshop fee is $110; instruction takes place at the KGNU studios, 4700 Walnut Street in Boulder. Graduates are qualified to use studio space and become volunteer broadcasters, journalists and DJs. Get more information at www.kgnu.org or by calling 303-449-4885.
