Ladies' Night

Laura Goldhamer's artistic output is eclectic -- the banjo-picking songstress brings her considerable talent to several instruments, art projects and bands -- but tonight's performance, after a hiatus from touring with the Boulder-based Dovekins on the Tour de Fat, will be particularly diverse. Aside from the video installations she regularly does for shows with her solo project, Laura Goldhamer and the Silver Nails, Goldhamer is teaming up with Katherine Ersing of Pollination Population to create “this sculpture stage installation thing,” as she calls it. “It’s mostly recycled materials, cardboard and yarn.”

It’s all a part of Gorinto, a semi-regular event that’s pretty eclectic in its own right. “We’ve had everything from electronic art to 16mm film to a fourteen-piece avant-garde orchestra,” says curator and Mercury Cafe cook Corey Elbin. Tonight’s installation finds Goldhamer headlining an all-female cast of local luminaries that includes Kacey Johansing and Shenandoah Davis (both Denver musicians and recent L.A. transplants back in town for the night), Mercuria and a bunch of drop-ins.

Gorinto normally takes place at 8 p.m. at the Merc, but a scheduling conflict moved tonight’s performance to the Meadowlark, 2710 Larimer Street. Don’t fret, though: The Gorinto tradition of a $5 dinner remains intact, along with a $5 door charge. For more information -- or to get involved (Elbin’s always looking for performers) -- e-mail gorinto.merc@gmail.com.
