STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN AT CHAC

Noted for a diverse array of children’s programming, the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council is expanding its lineup for adults with Mira! Un Artista, Una Hora (Look! One Artist, One Hour), a lecture series in which artists will discuss their art, inspiration and process.

The first lecture features longtime CHAC collaborator Rita Flores de Wallace, who’s known as much for her knowledge of Mexican folklore traditions and culture as she is for her visual art, which often revolves around embroidery and paper cutting. Tonight, she’ll discuss the traditions of the curandera, or folk healer. The impressive part? Wallace, now in her mid-seventies, is just recovering herself from a recent hospital stay. “She’s like the Energizer Bunny,” says CHAC executive director Crystal O’Brien. “She just keeps going and going and going.”

O’Brien hopes Mira! will, too; CHAC, at 772 Santa Fe Drive, plans to host one on the fourth Thursday of every month going forward. Tonight’s lecture, starting at 6:30 p.m., costs $3. For more information, call 303-571-0440 or visit www.chacweb.org.
Fourth Thursday of every month, 6:30-7:30 p.m., 2010
