GET AHEAD WITH TEDX

Catch a glimpse of the future at TEDxBoulder, the local version of the renowned TED conference. The acronym stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, the three core areas of focus, but what it’s really about is ideas. “For geeks, TED is something almost mythical. It’s a collection of startling minds, many of whom are obscure, that coalesces into something heady and special,” explains organizer Ef Rodriguez. “It could be future thinking, it could be a reappraisal of history, it could be about joint replacement.”

Boulder’s TEDx will feature a diverse cast of more than twenty of Colorado’s best minds, such as Congressman Jared Polis, astro-physicist Jeremy Darling and preschool education advocate James Mejia. No matter the topic, count on being exposed to new ideas and unique visions of the world. “TED punches you in the face with the fist of brilliance. It will be special — like a unicorn,” Rodriguez promises. “We’re layering the entire affair with small details that we want people to fall in love with.”

The inaugaural TEDxBoulder’s themes are sustainability, design, extremes and technology. It starts at 3 p.m. today at Chautauqua Auditorium, 900 Baseline Road in Boulder. Tickets are $25. For more info, visit www.tedxboulder.com.
