HIGH TIMES

We’re all fascinated by adventurers and their reasons for taking seemingly insurmountable risks. Journalist Jennifer Jordan’s awe became fixed on the story of wealthy mountaineer Dudley Wolfe — a member of the 1939 American team that attempted to climb the treacherous K2 on the border of China and Pakistan — after finding his remains during one her own visits to K2 as an author and film producer of works documenting women who’d climbed the hellish pinnacle. Wolfe disappeared high on the peak and was left behind by the rest of the inexperienced and unsuccessful crew; Jordan’s discovery kick-started her second K2 account, The Last Man on the Mountain: The Death of an American Adventurer on K2, which imagines in great detail the last weeks of the climber’s life.

Jordan will discuss and sign copies of the rigorously researched book, a must-read for any climbing enthusiast, tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Boulder Book Store, 1107 Pearl Street in Boulder. Visit www.boulderbookstore.com or call 303-447-2074.
