Coconut Shithole
Self-released

Starting out with a subtle drone of cycling sounds, like time-lapse clouds streaming across the night sky, side one of this album slowly evolves into darker territory, conjuring a rainy weather pattern moving in with the summer breeze. Textured low end later in the mix suggests the sound of helicopters ominously drifting in from out of sight. The ambience evokes the science-fiction movies of Ridley Scott or the early films of Werner Herzog. Side two begins with a melodic streaming sound and echoing sounds that could be voices coming from the great beyond where Carol Anne went when she got too close to the TV in Poltergeist. In fact, despite its somewhat misleading title, this whole release is haunted and fascinatingly bleak, like Popol Vuh scoring the soundtrack to the post-apocalypse.
