A FRESH LOOK

“We just thought that there’s a real need for people to get together and have an opportunity to see these kinds of films and have discussions,” says Celia Adamec, adult program manager at the Denver Botanic Gardens. And so they created the Sustainable Food Film Series, which starts tonight at 6:30 p.m. with a screening of Fresh.

The series is sponsored by Chipotle, so there will be food and informational display tables before every film. “Hopefully people will come early enough to enjoy that and socialize,” Adamec says. And for each installment of the series, the Gardens will team up with a different organization to showcase the range of sustainable projects in the city. This time, local eco-clothiers Zavella will present a fashion show before the 7 p.m. screening.

There will usually be a discussion after each film, although organizers are skipping that with Fresh. “We wanted to make that a fun, summery show,” notes Adamec. And it should be fun, since Fresh takes a look at the people — farmers, thinkers and entrepreneurs ranging from Michael Pollan to David Ball — who are reshaping the way Americans view food. Admission is free, but there’s a $10 suggested donation for each film.
