GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES

Three words: Cheerleaders racing go-karts. Actually, that might be four words, depending on whether you count “go-karts” as one word or two, but those words provide a very good reason to attend the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders’ Calendar Release Party and Race to Keep Kids on Track.

Don’t be fooled by the name: While the proceeds may benefit at-risk youth organizations like the Kempe Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Denver, the event really has nothing to do with kids. For one thing, it features the release of the cheerleaders’ 2011 swimsuit calendar (so, okay, maybe it has to do with twelve-year-old boys), and for another, there will be a ton of food and liquor. For $40, you get a calendar, that food and an open bar — but upgrade to $100 and you’ll race go-karts “that go, like, 60 mph,” says event chairwoman Katie Kosters. And, yes, you will race them against actual cheerleaders. Buckle up. (There are VIP options, too, but they’re too speedy for us.)

The party goes down from 6:30 to 10 p.m. tonight and 5 to 10 p.m. tomorrow at the Track at Centennial, 13600 Eagle Rock Road in Englewood. For more information, go to www.keepingkidsontrack.org.
Fri., Aug. 13, 6:30-10 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 14, 5-10 p.m., 2010
