GRAZE EXPECTATIONS

There won’t be any trucked-in produce from California, Florida, Mexico — or anywhere outside this state, for that matter — at tonight’s al fresco Feast in the Field dinner. Featuring the culinary flair of twenty Colorado chefs, all of whom will prepare small tastes using nothing but locally sourced ingredients, the locavore’s graze-a-thon will sprout at 6 p.m. at the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield, 8500 Deer Creek Canyon Road.

“Thirty of Colorado’s best food, wine and beer producers are providing all the food and drink, and absolutely everything that will be served and poured is from the Centennial State,” promises Will Jones, public relations director for the Gardens. In fact, some of the ingredients will even be harvested from the DBG’s own vegetable plot. The chefs will provide copies of their recipes, and producers will be on hand to field questions about sustainable food options.

Tickets, which help benefit the Colorado Chefs Association Education Fund and the Chatfield Gardens, are $100 per person, or $150 for VIP packages, which give you access to a private waitstaff and bartender — but you’ll still need to pack a picnic basket with plates, napkins, silverware and glasses, because this is a zero-waste affair.
