A Match Made in heaven

In Invictus, director Clint Eastwood dramatized the story of how Nelson Mandela galvanized the South African people in support of the Springboks, the nation’s rugby team and a surprise contender in the 1995 Rugby World Cup Championship, and in the process, broke through the racial barrier left behind after the fall of Apartheid. Driven by the fine performances of Morgan Freeman as Mandela and Matt Damon as Springboks captain François Pienaar, it’s inspirational and uplifting. But it will take on added meaning when it’s screened at the epicenter of the Rugby Capital of Colorado, the home of the Glendale Raptors, Infinity Park.

The rugby stadium’s Monday Night Movie Madness series presents Invictus tonight at dusk on the Jumbotron screen; gates open at 7 p.m. and picnics are welcome. And here’s the real score: Admission is free. For details, visit http://www.infinityparkatglendale.com/events/summer-movies.php.
