Pull out your bibs and wet naps, people! The Big Aspen Barbecue Block Party hits the streets of Glitter Gulch this weekend, fresh off the smoke of New York’s Big Apple Barbecue Block Party, an annual massive gathering of barbecue die-hards whose swollen guts and clogged arteries reek of pig.

Aspen’s sister event gets grilling at the base of Aspen Mountain at noon today, when revered pitmasters from around the country – Ed Mitchell (The Pit, Raleigh, North Carolina); Drew Robinson (Jim ’N Nick’s Bar-B-Q, Birmingham, Alabama); Kenny Callaghan (Blue Smoke, New York); Scott Roberts (Salt Lick BBQ, Driftwood, Texas); Mike Mills (17th Street Bar & Grill, Murphysboro, Illinois); Jim Butchart (Sam’s Smokehouse, Aspen); and Aspen chef Ryan Hardy (Montagna at The Little Nell) – host cooking demos, seminars and book signings. Also on tap: live music and a VIP tent with specialty cocktails, beer and wine. “We are incredibly excited to bring this one-of-a-kind celebration of barbecue and live music to one of the most beautiful areas of the country,” says Callaghan, the event’s co-founder.

Admission is free; plates of ’cue are $8 each, and a VIP Peak Pass, which allows you to huddle in a hospitality tent with other high-society movers and shakers, is $150 (that price also includes a $100 value redeemable on food, beverages and merchandise).
