Sean Hunting Morse

Lines From Someplace
Self-released

After honing his skills at local open mikes, Sean Hunting Morse started hosting a night at the Ubisububi Room, below the Thin Man. Being around some of the best singer-songwriters, he absorbed something through osmosis, it seems — or maybe the guy already had it. Either way, Morse's seven-song EP, Lines From Someplace, is proof that he knows a few things about penning a tune. Morse eases into things on the meditative opener, "Malibu," which features some fine pedal steel playing from Jack Leahy and lovely background vocals from Megan Burtt. From there, he slides into the relaxed jazz lilt of "Santa Fe" and "Down Here Below," both of which showcase deft trumpet playing by Gabe Mervine. "Hey Love" is an unhurried stunner backed by Jess DiNicola's radiant background vocals. The remaining tracks are equally strong, and with Jamie Mefford on board as the engineer and co-producer (as well as playing many different instruments on the disc), the EP sounds good, too.
