Everyday Pagans
Forget what you’ve seen in B-movies or heard from the fire-and-brimstone preachers: Pagans are just normal people. That’s the message of today’s Front Range Pagan Pride event. “The purpose and the mission of the project is to educate people to what paganism is and what it isn’t,” explains Joy Phelan, local coordinator of the Pagan Pride Project. “They hear the word “witchcraft” and get freaked out. We’re just like everybody else. We just follow a different path than what is mainstream. It’s not about the goth kids you saw in the movie The Craft.”
The event will feature several rituals from different pagan faiths — paganism is an umbrella term that encompasses almost any non-Abrahamic religion — along with a canned-food drive, live music, workshops and a performance and presentation from renown pagan teacher T. Thorn Coyle. It’s a family-friendly event that’s not miles removed from the church socials of any other faith, and a perfect chance to satisfy your pagan curiosity. It happens today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the festival area of Stapleton Central Park, 8601 Martin Luther King Boulevard. It’s free, but remember to bring canned goods and an open mind.
