Shoot to Thrill in Telluride

If there are two things Telluride loves, it’s festivals and, in the midst of the spectacular fall colors, outdoor photography. Now, for the first time, somebody has thought to put the two together.

“When I first moved here in 2000, that was my first full festival season,” says Eric Moore, who organized this year’s first-ever Telluride Photography Festival. “And in the fall, there were a lot of photographers coming through, so I’d been thinking about a photography festival for a long time. Then I got laid off this year from a corporate job I was working, and it just seemed like the time to do it.”

Recruiting the help of the Ah Haa School for the Arts, Moore rounded up the likes of Tom Till, Bill Ellzey (both of whom have shot for National Geographic) and others to exhibit works and run workshops throughout the week, giving shutterbugs all the more reason to head up to the mountains and shoot some extremely photogenic foliage.

The festival — which Moore adds is primarily geared toward professional photogs and “experienced amateurs” — starts today in various venues around Telluride and runs through Sunday. A full pass, which includes portfolio reviews, is $350, with additional fees for workshops. For details on all events and activities, go to www.telluridephotofestival.com or call the Ah Haa School at 970-728-3866.
