The Life and Times

Art, it’s been said, is a mirror for life — and if that’s the case, then Bovine Metropolis is taking that credo a little further than usual. In Biography: Life as Comedy, the improv troupe takes interviews with everyday people and turns them into fodder for sketches, riffing, poetry — what the hell, even interpretive dance.

More About

“When you work with the same people doing the same games and sketches,” says director Eric Farone, “you start to see the same stuff over and over. This breathes a little life into that; it adds an unpredictable element that makes it new.” Farone interviews the guests, who select a performer to represent them, and then that performer and others come up with sketches based on the answers to the questions. Tonight’s guest is Anthea Johnson. Who is she? “I have no idea who she is,” Farone says. “We don’t really want to know too much about the guests, because then we come in with preconceived notions.”

It’s improv, after all. The show premieres tonight at 8 p.m. at Bovine Metropolis Theater, 1527 Champa Street, and continues on Fridays and Saturdays through November 13; tickets are $16. For more information, go to www.bovinemetropolis.com or call 303-758-4722.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Sept. 17. Continues through Nov. 13, 2010
