Home Improvements

This should be illuminating: The Colorado Renewable Energy Society’s Denver Area Solar and Green Homes Tour aims to educate homeowners on solar and energy efficiency. “Part of our mission is to show people different ways to connect with the renewable-energy economy. It doesn’t just have to be solar panels on your roof,” says Tony Frank, executive director of CRES. “You learn from each homeowner how they did it and what their thought process was at the time.”

Participants can do today’s fourteen-home tour in two different ways. They can pick up a guidebook and drive themselves (carpools recommended), or take the guided bus tour led by CRES 2004 president Dave Bowden. Check-in for that tour starts at 8:30 a.m. at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory Visitors Center, 15013 Denver West Parkway in Golden; for the self-guided tour, check in at either at the NREL center or Habitat for Humanity Denver, 3245 Eliot Street. All the homes will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

To buy tickets — $45 for the bus tour, $5 for the self-guided version — go to www.cres-energy.org. For more information, call 303-806-5317.
Sat., Sept. 25, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 2010
