Role Reversal

Sometimes it’s funny to put things where they don’t belong — like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop, or George W. Bush in the White House. That absurdist dissonance is the guiding principle behind MisCast, Paragon Theatre’s annual fundraiser and sendup show.

The idea originally came from Nextstage, a now-defunct Denver theater company. “We called them up and asked them if we could carry on the tradition, and they were really happy to have us do it,” says Warren Sherrill, Paragon’s co-founder and artistic director. Now in its second year at Paragon, MisCast promises to be even bigger and better than it was last time — and last time was pretty good: Skits included Paragon executive director Michael Stricker offering a speech from The Vagina Monologues and other performers doing a scene from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with the gender roles reversed.

“It’s hilarious and a lot of fun,” says Sherrill. “People get really excited about doing something they’ve never done.” See for yourself tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Aurora Fox Theater, 9900 East Colfax Avenue in Aurora. Tickets are $35 and include one free cocktail; to buy yours, call 303-300-2210 or go to www.paragontheatre.org.
