Vampire Rising
Just in time for Halloween, the Denver Center Theatre Company is presenting a classic tale of horror — and, perhaps, helping to salvage the image of vampires worldwide from their recent ham-handed treatment by Twilight’s Stephanie Meyer. Opening tonight is the original vampire story about the scariest bloodsucker of them all: Dracula.

“We thought we could really do justice to Dracula and celebrate the fall,” says spokeswoman Genevieve Miller. “I think everyone found it fun. This adaptation is very close; it follows the novel in both the plot and the style. It’s very loyal to the book.”
In other words, tell your teenage daughters not to expect any emo vampires sparkling in the sunlight. “We’ll have a lot of really cool effects,” adds Miller. “A lot of the design is things emerging from the gloom, darkness and fog, and the fear and dread comes from your imagination more than anything else. It’s more about what you envision to be lurking than what’s actually on the theater stage.”
