Drop 6

Grip the Wheel
Self-released

There are several factors working against Drop 6 that make its latest album laughably bad. For starters, Grip the Wheel takes the worst parts of classic rock and pop punk and throws in a singer that sounds like James Hetfield running up a flight of stairs. The song "Alcohant" takes the hackneyed metaphor of being bound by "chains" and explains how "drugs and alcohol in their veins" helps to alleviate the problem of being a 25-year-old binge drinker — or does booze make it worse (they never really say)? Trite metaphors, slightly off-key-vocals and '80s arena-rock guitar solos persist throughout the album, invoking moments of mild embarrassment, sympathy and definitely a few chuckles.
