Scary Stray Cat Strut

Kevin Pharris leads Denver History Tours year-round, but the Cathouse Crawl tour — available today only — is a little different. “You’re chasing ghosts and goblins for a cause,” Pharris says. “It’s a tour focusing on the ghosts and the ungentlemanly behavior of the past, so it’s definitely one that ladies and gentlemen would not necessarily want to come and be a part of, lest they swoon.”

With that in mind, don your costumes (hopefully not too ladylike or gentlemanly) and head to Union Station at 17th and Wynkoop streets for the kick-off of the tour, which will visit the Oxford Hotel (allegedly the most haunted structure in Denver), the back alleys of Strangler’s Row, and other areas where wanton women and the wicked men who wanted them meandered, lived and died decades before any of us were born.

Proceeds will benefit the Animal Rescue and Adoption Society, a no-kill shelter for felines, and the tour includes two stops for refreshments: one at Scruffy Murphy’s, where you’ll get two-for-one pints, and one at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, where you can cash in some beer-sample coupons. Visit www.ticketleap.com or Scruffy Murphy’s, 2030 Larimer Street, for tickets, $20. Tours run from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Get more information at www.denverhistorytours.com.
