Katie Goodman makes it no secret that Broad Comedy, her all-female, song-and-dance sendup of politics and pop culture, has a bit of a feminist bent. “If it’s not political,” she admits, “it’s kind of women-centric.”

It’s fitting, then, that the Vancouver Fringe Festival winner and critically acclaimed dame of theatrical comedy makes her first appearance around these parts at Broads for Birth Control, Chicks for Choice, a fundraiser for the Boulder Valley Women’s Health Center. Even so, Goodman emphasizes that the show is not about hear-me-roar grandstanding. “There’s no male-bashing,” she says. “It’s very friendly to all genders. Actually, it’s pretty cool to see, because about a third to half of the audience tends to be men.” And considering such song titles as “Saving My Hymen for Jesus” and “Soccer Mom Ho,” you don’t need to possess a vagina to see how that’s funny. What’s far more important an indicator as to whether or not you’ll like it, says Goodman, is your politics: “It’s a very liberal show,” she says. “You probably shouldn’t bring your Republican great aunt or anything.”

The show gets going at 7:30 p.m. at the Boulder Theater (2032 14th Street in Boulder), and advance tickets run between $25 general admission and $85 VIP, which includes a goodie bag and pre-show reception with the Broads.
