Dances With Dogs

The Misha May Foundation’s second annual A Moment for Mutts fundraiser at the Mercury Cafe will feature two kinds of dancing entertainment: belly and inter-species. Dahlia the belly dancer will perform a solo routine, while Mile High Musical Tails will present dogs and their owners performing choreographed routines. “I’m taking lessons with my dog, but we’re way at the beginning,” says Lorraine May, executive director of the foundation. “We’re just circling.” Dedicated to helping at-risk dogs, regardless of age or medical issues, the foundation offers a shelter and sessions for dogs and owners on subjects like animal communication and dog behavior. The group is celebrating its tenth anniversary with this benefit — and it needs help. “We took in about seventeen puppies in a couple of days and ended up with some sick ones, unfortunately,” says May, “so we have some definite vet expenses we’d like to raise money to pay for.” The $35 cost of admission includes lunch at the Mercury, 2199 California Street. In addition to the dancing, there will be two auctions, one silent and one run by a professional auctioneer. The event goes from noon until 3 p.m. Visit www.mishamayfoundation.org for more information.
