Will the Real Elaine Please Stand Up?

If you’ve seen Seinfeld, you kind of already know Carol Leifer: Besides working on the show between its fifth and seventh seasons, Leifer is also the legendary “real Elaine Benes,” having at least partially inspired the character. Now, that’s comedy street cred.

More recently, Leifer penned a book of humorous mid-life essays, When You Lie About Your Age, The Terrorists Win, in which she details, among other things, how she realized she was a lesbian. To give you an idea of the content we’re talking about, here’s how she describes that process: “And sex with a woman? Turns out it was a no-brainer…It was like having the answers before taking a test. Like walking around in the house you grew up in. You can turn all the lights off, I'll still know where everything is.”

This evening (calm down — the lights will all be on), Leifer appears at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center, 350 South Dahlia Street, as part of its third annual JAAMM fest, a celebration of Jewish authors, movies and music; the talk starts at 7 p.m. and will run you $20.
