Women + Film = Change

A nine-film series running through the Starz Denver Film Festival, Women + Film is a collection of stories told by women filmmakers that covers issues of social justice from a global perspective. In an effort to open dialogue between filmmakers, community leaders, human-rights advocates and the public, the series culminates with a discussion panel, titled Not Waiting on the World to Change, that will be led by series curator Barbara Bridges.

“We are excited to hear from women filmmakers who have documented incredible people making a difference in the world,” Bridges says. “They have filmed in places like Brazil, Uganda, Tanzania and the United States, exploring topics of tolerance, education and maternal health. Their stories will entertain you, educate you about the world, and may even move you to action.”

Joining Bridges are several participating producers and directors, including Lisa Gossels, director of My So-Called Enemy, a fascinating look at a group of Jewish and Palestinian teenagers brought together for week-long peace camp in New Jersey in an effort to build relationships outside of the current cultural conflict.

The panel discussion begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. For tickets, $12, and information, call 303-595-3456 or go to www.denverfilm.org.
