All the pieces are here for this band to be the next Fillmore-filler birthed from the jam-friendly loins of the Centennial State. While the act's sound is clearly organic, a natural byproduct of its members' influences — Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson, Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, and Black Crowes, according to MySpace — the group could very well have genetically engineered its grooves in a lab for optimum (and maximum) Front Range appeal. Falling somewhere between the edgier side of String Cheese and the proggier side of Umphrey's McGee, the Musketeers have crafted a lean, seven-song effort brimming with soul-drenched vocals, chorale-worthy gospel harmonies, rumbling, funktastic bass lines, searing Southern-rock fretwork and prodigious harp playing that would give John Popper pause.

"Prodigious harp playing that would give John Popper pause?" Yeah, right. Jason Downing's harp playing is more comparable to Alanis Morissette than John Popper.

What I surprise when I picked up my favorite publication, Westword, to see a review of our favorite band who have performed all along the Front Range, Muskateer Gripweed. We've had the pleasure to watch lead singer Jason Downing grow in his musical career... and now, with THE PERFECT band assembled plus the addition of fabulous backup singers on the most recent CD, this band has reached stellar heights! You have to see them in person to fully appreciate their talents. Not only is the music over the top, they are fun to watch! Lots of energy, and very interactive with one another and their audiences. They practice what they "preach" in their music... tolerance, love, peace.

Musketeer Gripweed is more than just a jam band. I know these guys personally and they practice what they preach. They are LEGIT! I love the positive energy that they give off during shows, it is pure, raw and true. These guys love what they do, and love it because they love their families, friends and you (even if you have a cell phone!)

I must agree with Gillespie. Gripweed's live shows are no less than extraordinary, with high, positive energy from both band and crowd! An ass-shaking, great time!

We have seen this band many times in the last year, and the live show MUST be seen, LOTS of energy, very positive vibe, and really tight shows...much fun! Cheers to this!
