Home Sweet House

Unless you’ve got the creativity gene of Martha Stewart, building gingerbread houses is better left to the experts. Luckily for you, the confectioners at Jill’s restaurant, in Boulder’s St Julien Hotel, are masters of sugar, spice and everything nice. As part of the hotel’s annual Gingerbread Tea service, which gets under way today, they are crafting personalized gingerbread cottages for guests to take home at $30 a pop; profits will benefit Boulder’s I Have a Dream Foundation.

Guests can pick up their houses during the restaurant’s holiday tea service, which includes homemade scones, tea sandwiches, petits fours, live piano music from Grammy Award winner Ralph Sharon, and a kids’ do-it-yourself gingerbread cookie decorating station supervised by the pastry staff. “It’s a really unique and fun experience for the whole family, and it’s always a great hit,” says tea manager April Reola, adding that the kids get a chef’s hat, apron and gift bag. “We make it really simple for them, and the kids and pastry chefs have a really good time decorating the cookies.”

There are two tea-service seatings – noon and 2 p.m. – and if you can’t snag reservations (they’re required) for today’s tea, future dates include November 28 and December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19. Admission is $26.95 for adults and $14.95 for kids. The St Julien is located at 900 Walnut Street, and reservations can be made at www.jillsdining.com or 720-409-7399.
Saturdays, Sundays, 12 & 2 p.m. Starts: Nov. 27. Continues through Dec. 19, 2010
