Stretch Your Mind

Musician and social activist Michael Franti has been practicing what he preaches for decades, and even as the burgeoning popularity of such songs as “Hey World” and “Sound of the Sunshine” have thrust him into the spotlight — he opened for John Mayer on Mayer’s spring tour this year — Franti has maintained his integrity and commitment to justice.

“I want to be involved in helping where I can to make things better,”he explains. “And I found that oftentimes you do that through happy music, not necessarily through angry music, but making music that inspires people to get through difficult times.”

Not surprisingly, Franti is a practitioner of yoga, and fans have the opportunity to join him in his downward-facing dogs at today’s Harvest Ball and CorePower Workshop. From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Broomfield’s 1STBANK Center, 11450 Broomfield Lane, CorePower Yoga will host a workshop, and Franti will provide live acoustic music for the duration. At 8 p.m. (after a sold-out 2 p.m. matinee), Michael Franti & Spearhead will play a full concert at the center. Tickets for the workshop (which benefit the Gathering Place) and concert are $75, and admission is $37.50 for the concert only; visit http://michaelfranti.com/ for information and to purchase tickets.
Sat., Nov. 27, 8 p.m., 2010
