Dixie Longate is Tupperware’s top saleswoman. But it didn’t start out that way. She first got into Tupperware in 2001. “As part of the conditions for my parole, I had to get a job to get my kids back,” she says. “Which is so stupid, ’cuz I didn’t even want ’em. But they make you take ’em. It’s so irritating.”

Don’t call child services. Longate is a character that's been played (even off stage) by actor Kris Andersson since 2004, and Dixie’s Tupperware Party will stay in Denver for more than a month, offering stories, performances and alternative uses for the iconic plastic containers. “I know that Denver’s really famous for lesbians and runnin’ around real fast and exercising,” says Dixie. “So I’m gonna try to do some of them things.”

And she’ll be selling, because the show is also an actual Tupperware party: Attendees get a catalogue and can buy Tupperware products afterward.

Dixie's Tupperware Party starts tonight at the Garner Galleria Theatre, in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, and runs through January 2.
