Unorthodox Jews

"We're unorthodox Jews," says Rob Tannenbaum, co-creator of the comedy and music duo Good for the Jews. "My favorite Jewish singer was never Neil Diamond; it was always Joey Ramone." The traveling show includes songs like "Jews for Jesus" and "They Tried to Kill Us, We Survived, Let's Eat." Following in the footsteps of Jewish comedian/musicians like Mel Brooks, Good for the Jews is sort of like a kosher version of Flight of the Conchords. "We sing about the comedy of contemporary Jewish life,” Tannenbaum explains. “However, because we invented something new, people think we're going to try and circumcise them."

Opening tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe Street, Tannenbaum and partner David Fagin will sing some songs, come out into the audience, tell jokes and steal your hamburgers. "We're not getting paid that well, so if there's a hamburger on your table, we'll take it," says Tannenbaum. "If the last thing in the world you want to see is a concert of live Jewish music, then you should come see us. At the end, if you want to be circumcised, then we'll talk."
