On a Roll
Offering rotating special guests each night, the edgy variety show BALLS! A Holiday Spectacular is an opportunity to catch a cross-section of Denver’s creative class while giving back to the community at a relatively modest cost. Proceeds from each performance benefit a different charity. “It’s a chance for people to have fun and be philanthropists without drawing too much on their pocketbook,” says BALLS! co-creator Mare Trevathan. “We also wanted to do something different. Denver just didn’t have anything for the holidays that filled our desire for something other than The Nutcracker.”
BALLS! opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Curious Theatre Company, 1080 Acoma Street, and continues through December 18. Special guests include jazz musician and standup comic Johnny Hayz with Jim Wood; singer-songwriter Sean Maloney; the cast of Buntport Theater Company’s tRUNKS; salsa dance champion Eulanda Shead;writer Megan Quicke; comedienne Meridith Crosley Grundei; DJ Savior Breath; and Cheech & Chong Holidays with Jaime Lujan and Peter Trinh. Beneficiaries include Fresh City Life, Dani’s Foundation, Curious Theatre Company, Slow Food Denver, PlatteForum and Grow Local/The GrowHaus.
