Is There a Comic in the House?

Roy Wood Jr. has appeared on everything from Late Show With David Letterman to Russell Simmons's Def Comedy Jam, but he’s never done anything like Last Comic Standing. For one, he considers it the most important line on his resumé as a comedian. In fact, he calls the show one of the best credits a comedian can have anywhere these days. He and the other finalists from this year’s season will be at the University of Denver’s Newman Center for the Performing Arts tonight, as part of NBC’s Last Comic Standing Tour.

They’ve been on tour since the show ended in September. “As a comic, you work alone,” Wood says. “With this tour, there are more opportunities to do things with other cats. There’s some camaraderie there.” The lineup is rounded out by Tommy Johnagin, Mike DeStefano, Myq Kaplan and Felipe Esparza, who won this year’s season. Wood got his start in radio and still has a morning show in his native Birmingham. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets range from $29.50 to $37.50. Find more information at www.comedyworks.com.
