Mountain Traffic

Echo Mountain’s annual Traffic Jam Ski and Snowboard Contest starts today and, since it’s sponsored by Scion, will feature vehicle-themed terrain park obstacles: tire jibs, junker cars, old road signs, and anything else Echo’s mad scientist park designer Marc Moline can get his mittens on.

“I couldn’t even tell you what Marc has planned for this year’s contest,” says Echo Mountain spokeswoman Leigh Ann Peterson. “He’s always working on something crazy. Last year we debuted the Never Summer Tucker, a new feature built out of the old Tucker Sno-Cat that was left here when the Squaw Pass Ski Area closed in 1975.”

And speaking of traffic jams, Peterson says she never misses an opportunity to mention that “the exit to get here from I-70 is well be-fore the point where the ski traffic tends to start piling up. You could be up here shredding in the Junkyard terrain park and competing for great prizes in our Traffic Jam while everyone else is still sitting in their cars on the interstate.”

The contest begins today at 9 a.m. Register online at www.echomt.com for $10 or on site for $15 (lift ticket not included), and look for prizes and swag from Colorado-based snowboard companies Never Summer and Sims and a dozen other sponsors.
