That Can-Do Spirit

“We’re officially in crunch time,” says Ben Davis, spokesman for the inaugural committee planning Colorado Can Do, the inaugural activities for Governor-elect John Hickenlooper and Lieutenant Governor-elect Joe Garcia. Assuming the committee survives that crunch, at 8:30 a.m. today Hickenlooper will officially resign his post as mayor of Denver, then walk from the City and County Building across Civic Center to the State Capitol, where people can start grabbing seats at 8 a.m. (they’re first come, first served) for the swearing-in ceremony at 10 a.m. “A lot of people ask about the weather,” Davis notes. “It would have to be a state of emergency to shut things down. We asked about rain options; there are none.”

Still, Hickenlooper should be dry in time for the 5:30 p.m. Keeping It Colorado dinner and dancing at the Fillmore Auditorium, where both the entertainment and the food will be homegrown. “It is all Colorado products whenever we could do it,” Davis notes. “Colorado produce. Colorado beer. A lot of vendors are the people we visited on the campaign.” Tickets to that event are $100.

And it’s followed by one last bash at 9 p.m., the $75 Inaugural Concert at the Ogden Theatre featuring OneRepublic and a special guest, someone whose band will be back in Colorado for another gig a week or so later. Hmm, that could mean…

“I should go now,” says Davis. And so should you, if you want to buy tickets — which are going fast — at www.coloradocando.com.
