Cowboy Up

“In January, the whole town goes Western a little bit,” notes Reyna Von Vett — whose alter ego, Cora Vette, emcees, sings and generally acts as madam for the BurlyCute burlesque troupe. “So we thought, ‘Why fight it?’” Hence the latest BurlyCute offering, Too Sexy for the Stock Show, which longtime fans might remember from last year: It was the biggest BurlyCute show in 2010. “As long as people keep coming, we’ll keep twisting it up and mashing it around,” Von Vett promises. “This year will be totally different again — similar elements, but new things all the time.”

That includes the usual BurlyCute suspects — Vivienne VaVoom, Anabella LaFontaine, La Petite Morte and Frangelica Love among them — plus a new girl, Lily D'Lovely, who’ll offer up a fan dance using cowboy hats instead of fans.

“What I’m excited about this year is that the music’s even more varied,” Von Vett says. “If you don’t like country music, you’re still going to like this show. We’re doing the Will Smith version of ‘Wild, Wild West,’ along with Johnny Cash. It’s completely all over the place with the Western theme: ‘I Wanna Be a Cowboy’ from the ’80s, Kid Rock’s cowboy song — elements that aren’t country, along with fun, banjo-pickin’ country music.”

Too Sexy for the Stock Show opens tonight at 8 p.m. at Bender’s Tavern, 314 East 13th Avenue, and runs again on January 20; tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Visit www.benderstavern.com.
