Love is In the Air

The newly formed, in-house Byers-Evans House Theatre Company is truly a group effort, notes house playwright Maggie Stillman, who, along with six other writers contributed a series of vignettes on the subject of Love, just in time for Valentine's Day. Designed to fill in the cracks that other Valentine-season shows gloss over, Love, a world premiere original production which opened at the museum on in January, mixes up modern-day stories with older ones, such as two inspired by letters written to Baby Doe Tabor by anonymous lovesick men.

“Most Valentine shows that come out this time of year are either saccharine comedies or very dramatic,” Stillman says. “There's nothing else with the same blend of different experiences.” Some of the situations dealt with in Love include what Stillman facetiously calls the “joys of Internet dating,” as well as how women prepare before going out on a date; some stories are fictional, but many are based on real life.
