Pledge Allegiance

As if to welcome the new year with some fresh business, the Denver Art Museum is bringing back its monthly, expect-anything event for adults, Untitled. And fully in the spirit of perfect timing, this initial session, Untitled #33 (Pledge), is all about kicking aside the already-broken resolutions and making some real personal promises for 2011.

How will Pledge do this? DAM manager of adult and Collect programs Lindsey Housel offers a few of the many ways. “Pledge is all about artists making creative pledges such as to paint every day for one year or to create a personal manifesto,” she notes. (To that end, artists Karen Kitchel and Mia Semingson will be showcased.) “We’ll also have a funny take on the idea of Pledge, as in cleaning, by having collections assistant Jen Dibbern give a talk on the dangers of dust bunnies, probably in “Fox Games” (the popular installation by Sandy Skoglund), where she’ll be showing and talking about maintaining objects and the materials and supplies and things we do to keep things clean at the museum.”

Guests to Pledge, which runs from 6 to 10 p.m. tonight, will be invited to make pledges of their own, as well as give their two cents on a theme for the first Untitled in 2012. The Denver Art Museum is at 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway, and any Untitled program is included in the regular DAM admission fee of $3 to $13 (or two-for-one for students with a valid ID).
