Osiris King

Hostile Takeover
Self-released

Repeated listens to Osiris King's new album, Hostile Takeover, reveal that the production ultimately outshines the rapping. It's not that Osiris can't rap: He does just fine with what he's got, and both his cadence and his delivery are technically proficient. It's more that his rhymes seem flat, and the lyrics don't really offer much in the way of substance. As a result, the beats end up taking center stage, especially on tracks like "Fast Lane," which showcases standout production from Tom Davids, but where Osiris's voice and flow just aren't rugged enough to carry the tune. The strongest track on the album is "City Never Sleeps," with its funk samples and fast-driven drums. As a rhymer, Osiris definitely has sound skills, but his raps are not very compelling.

Osiris has great flo, sure there is always room for improvement and I'm positive he will take this as constructive criticism and just wow us all even more with his flo's from now on. I'd just like to ask where was this person when all these people who are famous already that have absoutly no talent needed to be criticizied?

Osiris delivered the talent of a true lyricist, after i got the CD it was in my deck for at least three weeks! Something is to be said about that.

"Its one thing to have constructive criticism but this just sounds like a HATER lmao that a Westword writer would stoop to that level." <--- LOL'ing sooo hard at that. Because, honestly, it's one thing not to like someone's opinion, but it's another to rant on like an angry mother.

Yo, I don't hate Osiris' music, not a bit, but I don't love it, and I can see where Ru comes from. Nothin' wrong with tellin' someone to step their game up. She didn't even "hate", and gave a number of uplifting comments.

P.S. When she said proficient she was giving a COMPLIMENT. In a nutshell, she said his delivery and flow are good, but lyrics ain't there.

My favorite advice: If you wanna be the best, ask your momma. If you wanna be good, ask your friends. But don't go anywhere else unless you wanna be real.

Also written by Ru Johnson on reverbnation.com./osirismusic"Hip Hop has a new voice and powerful leader, in Osiris. He will not hide in the shadows and will speak for the people who hear his truth. Osiris feels he can make music for people so that they understand their own leadership potential. With the current music climate in it’s most sanguid state, Osiris is a breath of fresh air. A native of New York City, Osiris spent most of his adolescent in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Relocating to Denver, CO, it would be the mile high city that would grant Osiris the ability to hone his talent. Born to Haitian parents, Osiris, fluent in Creole, uses his professionally trained ear to create music that speaks to his beliefs. Classically trained, music is not only a hobby, but a way of life, for the poet/MC. The aim is for Osiris to teach others to live out loud, and be happy with the choices we make. His music is a literal translation from thought, to paper, and smoothed out over a tight beat. Music has no greater example of a young hustler."

does this writer even know what they are saying?! Osiris is one of the few artists who delivers some sort of substance these days. I got his album from a friend and fell in love. With rappers like Waka Flocka out there its nice to have something to listen to. Its one thing to have constructive criticism but this just sounds like a HATER lmao that a Westword writer would stoop to that level. i thought that voice and flow were part of delivery. im confused :/

ps pro·fi·cient/prəˈfiSHənt/Noun: A person who is proficient.Adjective: Competent or skilled in doing or using something.

duh i know she was giving him a compliment but she contradicted her self a few sentences later, not to mention a total contradiction from the bio she wrote

Question: was this bio for him personally to use that he paid for such as a "product" or something she did as a writer for publication?
