The Academy Awards are a spectator sport for fans of film, and the Denver Film Society’s Reel Social Club is tapping in. Celebrating with some good old-fashioned pre-show wagering, the inaugural Oscar Nomination Liquid Brunch goes down at 10 a.m. at the Denver FilmCenter, giving movie buffs a chance to place their bets on the best films of the year. Fifteen bucks gets you brunch from Tony’s Market and bottomless mimosas from Moët and Chandon, and DJ Ginger Perry will be on the decks throughout the festivities, which include a private screening of the Oscar-nominated Exit Through the Gift Shop at noon. Ballots will be available for purchase, and cor-rect predictions will be entered to win prizes at the society’s Oscar Night party at the EXDO Event Center.

Less than a year old, Reel Social Club was created and is co-chaired by friends Jenny Bloom and Katie Shapiro as a way to connect younger patrons interested in film. “We saw Reel Social Club as great way to get a fresh audience exposed to the Denver Film Society’s programming,” Shapiro says. The Oscar Nomination Liquid Brunch is the first in a handful of events the club has planned for 2011, including Film on the Rocks, cocktail parties and a one-year birthday celebration in July. Reel Social Club stresses that while its events are aimed at twenty- and thirty-somethings, all movie-goers are welcome and encouraged to join.
