Hat Tricks

The Boulder Fringe Festival won’t officially unfurl again until August, but the folks behind it all would still like to remind you that it’s coming back. To that end, the world is invited to tonight’s annual Fringe Lottery Party, where names for the majority of this year’s performers will be chosen out of a hat. It all coincides with the fest’s other year-long reminder, Big Time, a monthly theater/performance cabaret showcase.

“The biggest point of it is that the public gets to see it’s a random selection process,” says Fringe spokeswoman Alana Eve Burman. “Beyond that, we just like to have fun with it and see it as a chance to connect with people and get them excited about the festival. The public will get to help draw the names out of the hat, and then we’ll be tweeting the names live on our Twitter page.”

The event begins with Big Time’s local theater previews and a chance for wild-card holders to perform; name-pulling, however, will be the grand finale. “Anybody who sees their name come out of the hat goes crazy,” Alana adds. “Anything could take shape after that.”

Big Time and the lottery party go from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hotel Boulderado, 2115 13th Street in Boulder; admission is free. Go to www.boulderfringe.com for details.
