Gimme Some Sugar

If you’re sweet on chocolate, then be still, your beating heart, because Cupid is coming early, at least to Boulder, where the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) will host its annual Chocolate Lover’s Fling. Tonight’s love affair, a benefit for SPAN — a nonprofit that provides a safe haven, counseling and legal advocacy to those afflicted by domestic violence in Broomfield and Boulder counties — swings into action at 6:30 p.m. at the UCAR Event Center.

"It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year, and a natural tie-in to Valentine’s Day,” says SPAN development director Alexandra Lynch. “This is our thirtieth year, and it’s a wonderful event, with fabulous chocolate confections, ice creams and cakes from chocolatiers and pastry chefs from Boulder and across Colorado.”

The sugar showdown includes chocolate tastings, some from local author and chocolate queen Julie Pech, who wrote The Chocolate Therapist, along with champagne, a dinner buffet, wine, beer, big-band music and dancing, and a live auction offering, among other flights of fancy, a chocolate birthday cake from Indulge Bakery in Lafayette.

Tickets are $125 per person and $200 per couple; get yours, plus event details, at 303-449-8624 or www.bouldercountysafehouse.org.The UCAR Event Center is at 3080 Center Green Drive in Boulder.
