Monster Mash

If middle-school boys ran the world, everyone would drive monster trucks everywhere. And just because most people get old and lame doesn’t mean the dream is dead. Welcome to the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam, which includes six monster trucks, all with badass names like Grave Digger and El Toro Loco. And the awesomeness continues when it comes to statistics: The trucks are twelve feet tall and have about fifteen times the horsepower of your Honda Civic, which is good, because it takes a lot of power to send 10,000 pounds of truck sailing into the air.

The show will pit the trucks against each other in a variety of contests, including timed races, freestyle performance and a wheelie competition. “You try and get the truck as vertical, up and down, as you can,” says El Toro Loco driver Bari Musawwir. “Sometimes we can go past vertical, which the crowd really likes.”

The Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle, will host two shows today, at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and one tomorrow, at 2 p.m.; tickets range from $10 to $50. There will also be pit parties today and tomorrow between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. For tickets and more information, go to www.monsterjam.com.
