The roots of electronic art go back to the first art videos made in the 1960s. It was during that art-crazed decade that Icelandic-born, Czech-educated musician Steina Vasulka, who was then living in New York, created her first videos. The medium will be featured in Blink!, an all-electronic show opening this March at the Denver Art Museum. Steina — who uses her first name only — is one of the featured artists, but first she will be tonight’s featured speaker in the DAM’s Logan Lectures series.

“She stands out not only as an important video artist, but as one of the first women in the genre, making her a true pioneer,” says Jill Desmond, a curatorial assistant in the Modern and Contemporary department at the DAM and the organizer of Blink!. For the show, Steina will install a piece that explores “the possibilities of electronic media to redefine our interactions with technology.”
Steina’s talk begins at 7 p.m. in Sharp Auditorium, 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway; doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students, $12 for DAM Contemporaries members and artists, $15 for DAM members and $18 for the general public.
