Turning the Page On Potter

As young adults graduate from Harry Potter and the Twilight Saga, publishing companies are racing to meet the demands of a new generation of readers. This year, there are so many good YA fantasy titles that Penguin’s Young Readers Group assembled a rock-star lineup of authors and sent them out on tour together.

The Breathless Reads National Book Tour comes to the Tattered Cover in Highlands Ranch tonight with Ally Condie (Matched), Andrea Cremer (Nightshade), Kristen Miller (The Eternal Ones), Beth Revis (Across the Universe), and local author Brenna Yovanoff, whose debut novel, The Replacement, a horror story about stolen babies and the underworld, is the darkest and heaviest of the bunch. Yovanoff, who earned her MFA at Colorado State University, hopes that interaction with young readers will encourage budding writ-ers. “I always liked knowing that writers were real people, and that they had some specific road that took them to where they were, whatever its twists and turns,” she says. “It’s fascinating to meet people who are doing what you want to be doing and get a sense of how they got there, how it might be a real possibility for you to follow your own road there.” The event, which includes question-and-answer sessions and book signings, begins at 7 p.m. at the store, 9315 Dorchester Street in Highlands Ranch.
