Gender Is the Night

Baily Rose has been involved with the Titwrench festival since its inception two years ago, “helping with different fashion installations and performances both years,” she explains. “I came up with the idea of doing an art show called On Being a Woman in late summer, and I thought the only appropriate way to have it would be for Titwrench, which is so involved in the community.”

Dreams do come true: Tonight from 7 to 11 p.m., you can catch On Being a Woman at the Wazee Union Art Space 3501 Wazee Street. “It’s a huge warehouse, and we’re having multiple performances and installations,” notes Rose. “Obviously, we have a lot of women. We have a few men involved; Jose Duran really wanted to be involved, so he’s putting together a fashion piece for it, displayed simply on a mannequin somewhere.

“Julie Rada’s glASS (and other imponderables) will be located in the bathroom; she’ll be in a pool of water all night,” notes Rose. “Some of the installations will be pushing people out of their comfort zones.”

Admission to the installation is free, but a $5 to $7 door donation is requested to benefit Titwrench. “We don’t like to exclude anyone,” says Rose. For information, e-mail bail@illiteratemagazine.com.
