Soup Is Good Food

Brrr — it’s cold out there, baby! But you can warm your tootsies — and your heart — by putting a little soup in your step at tonight’s Soup for the Soul, a benefit that provides bowlfuls of comfort to patients of Porter Hospice and St. Anthony Hospice, both of which provide hospice care and family bereavement programs. A myriad of local artists who are donating their creations for the silent auction, plus more than eighteen restaurants — ChoLon Bistro, Elway’s Cherry Creek, Fruition, Oceanaire, Rioja, Root Down, Squeaky Bean, Table 6 and TAG among them — are taking part in the fundraiser, which starts simmering at 5:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Denver Downtown.

“This event is vitally important to hospice programs, and soup is such a warm, comforting type of food that just seems to fit with hospice care,” says Kathie Repola, president and chief development officer of Centura Health at Home Foundation, which supports the programs. “It’s a highly competitive event, too,” she warns, “where the chefs really go all out, serving everything from lobster bisque to posole.”

Tickets to the soiree, which include soup samples and appetizers (libations are extra), are $95 (or $75 for young professionals under forty and Centura Health associates) and can be purchased at www.soupforthesouldenver.org or by calling 303-561-5773. The Sheraton is at 1550 Court Place.
