The Outlook Is Sunny

The local branch of Green Spaces, a New York-based start-up for start-ups, will celebrate going totally solar today with a grand reopening party at 9 a.m. at its headquarters, 1368 26th Street. Since 2009, the ecologically minded space has offered Denver entrepreneurs a shared place to work and grow their enterprises for reasonable weekly and monthly rates — all while keeping the earth in mind. Early efforts included offering wind-powered Internet in the 5,500-square-foot building made from reclaimed and recycled materials; now Green Spaces has made the transition to running on 100 percent solar-power-provided energy.

The free open house will showcase not just Green Spaces’ environmentally savvy building, but also the conscious businesses housed there. “It’s evolved into a community space,” says co-founder Jennie Nevin, “and we decided to do this reopening with all of our partners and members involved.” Companies specializing in earth-conscious car maintenance, renewable energy sources for home and office and low-impact building materials will participate in the day-long information session. And at 7 p.m., Green Spaces will host the Denver premiere of Economics of Happiness, a documentary on the movement toward economic globalization.
